Phew! After months of hard work we’re absolutely delighted to say that we are officially open as The Courtyard Rooms!
Myself (Emily) and Darius took over this wonderful little b&b in August 2015. Previously known as the Brightlingsea Motel, the previous owners had done a fabulous job – building the rooms from scratch and to the highest quality. So in comparison, our job was simple! We began redecorating in September and by the end of November we’d achieved a cohesive look we felt reflected the rich seafaring history of Brightlingsea.
But redecorating was merely a small part of a much bigger project! From building a new website, designing new literature, and going through the lengthy planning permission process for new signage, it’s been go-go-go behind the scenes. Luckily we’ve been working with some amazing local companies, including Voodoo Creative and Forget Me Not Photography, whose experience has been invaluable.
Other locals we’ve come to know and love along the way are the wonderful butcher, baker and greengrocer on Brightlingsea High Street and also the team at Colchester Dairy. We’re incredibly proud to say that all our fresh ingredients come from local businesses. The only difficulty now is stopping ourselves from eating all the stock!
So it’s fair to say that in a few short months we’ve come a long way. And now we are officially trading as The Courtyard Rooms, it’s time for Stage Two: Achieve a Star Rating. We’re confident that four stars is within our reach. But for the moment, I think we’ve earned a little rest over the holiday season. Stage two starts in 2016!
