The annual Brightlingsea Winterfest really is a ray of sunshine in the gloomy month of February!
The festival raises funds for Colchester Mind, a fantastic local charity which supports those struggling with emotional or mental health issues. This was very appropriate considering many of the community events organised focussed on mental and physical wellbeing – including taster Tai Chi sessions, reflexology and a fantastic community dog walk.
Running over the course of 3 days, the festival also focussed on arts and music and the town was lit up (figuratively and literally!) with people’s artistic creations. Alongside a fantastic karaoke night and two open mic sessions, a variety of local bands took part in the festival providing excellent entertainment all around the town.
At the Waterside Gallery, families were treated to a lantern making workshop which ended in a wonderful parade of lanterns through the town. Quite a sight to behold on a dark February evening.
We were also delighted to be involved (albeit in a small way) by donating a selection of prizes to the Tombola – including a two night stay with us, which can also be used by the winners for any visiting friends and family.
The community spirit surrounding this festival really is tangible, and is yet another wonderful example of the Brighlingsea community coming together to support a worthy cause.
